Annabel and Matt are getting married at Hatfield House….REALLY BLOODY SOON!!!!  I met Annabel and Matt through one of the London weddings I photographed about 3 years ago now, it always gives me a lovely warm glow when I get referred by couples past AND get booked, I am so appreciative of this.

I don’t always carry out engagement photography sessions at the location in which the couple are to be married, there are no hard and fast rules about this, it’s just whatever works for us…and this did!!  I DIG the Tudors and as such was over the moon to find out that their wedding was taking place at this grand house STEEPED in history, it was in the gardens of these very grounds that Queen Elizabeth I was named Queen following the death of ‘Bloody Mary’ here is an excerpt from of my most fave books by Alison Weir:

“Here [at Hatfield], as noon approached, the princess, unheeding of the bitter cold, was taking the air in the park surrounding the palace, seated beneath an old oak tree, reading a book.

She was not aware of her imminent change of status. For several days now, courtiers and councillors with an eye to the future had been deserting the court of the dying Queen Mary and wending their way north to Hatfield to demonstrate their loyalty to her youthful heiress. Yet, when the lords of the Council came and knelt before her in the park, saluting her as their sovereign lady, Elizabeth was for a few moments speechless. Struggling with her emotions, she sank to her knees on the grass, and pronounced in Latin, “This is the Lord’s doing: it is marvellous in our eyes.[Psalm 118]”

Then she rose and, having recovered her composure, led the way back to the palace to receive the acclaim of her people and begin the business of ruling England.”
You may not care much for all of this but I do a big love on it, it is really nice to feel affinity with certain places that strike a chord with you.

Hatfield House is absolutely beautiful, immaculate gardens surround the buildings and the Jacobian architecture is breathtaking.  We were really lucky to be able to use them for the purpose of this engagement shoot, so cheers Hatters staff!!  It also gave us a great excuse to have a look around the venue prior to the wedding to scope out the area, this is not something I advocate, I do not think it is necessary to do ‘site visits’ prior to your wedding day but we were there so we made the most of it!!

People often ask; ”what do we WEAR??!!!” when it comes to the time of the engagement shoot, I have written a little bloggo on this here, but THIS one, that I am writing right NOW, is a great example, Annabel wore a flowing tea dress with flats and her hair loose, Matt a classic white tee and black jeans, keep it simple, fresh and comfortable!!  And they nailed it.

I am so excited to have been asked to be the wedding photographer for Annabel and Matt’s wedding, I simply cannot WAIT for their big day!!!
